Merriam Mnguni teaches grade 3 and is principal at MCA. She is from KwaMhlanga and lives close to the school. She is a widow and has 3 sons and 1 daughter. She finished Grade 12 and got her Primary teacher’s certificate, Higher Education diploma in pre-primary education, higher education diploma in Education management, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught in many different regions since 1972. She was a principal at another school for 5 years with much success before she came to MCA in 2010. She likes teaching because she likes to help others and loves children and the mission of Mukhanyo.
Tumelo Sehlabane is the spirited teacher of grade 1 at Mukhanyo. Tumi is from Vlaklaagte, which is an hour from MCA, so she must take a taxi to school. Tumi is married to a pastor and has one child. She completed her teaching diploma in 2014. She loves interacting with children because they teach her about herself. She considers the job at MCA an answer to prayer and loves her colleagues at MCA. She appreciates the Christian environment because everyone loves each other, in contrast to working in the government sector. She is excited to grow for the rest of her life, in her career and studies and experiences.
Vivian Appah teaches grade 2 at MCA. She is from Ghana and lives in Zakheni. She is married and has two boys. After finishing grade 12, Vivian went to Teacher Training College and received her teaching certification. She loves to teach, but particularly likes that the children at MCA know and love God. She enjoys reading Bible stories to her students and it makes her happy to know that they love to hear them.
Johannes Masombuka teaches grade 5 mathematics and social science. He is from Mpumalanga and stays in Vlaagte, about an hour’s drive away. He has a wife and two children, both of whom are girls, named Sboneleo and Nqobile. He has been teaching for seven years and is currently studying for his his Diploma in Education with the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Sherley de Bruin is Mukhanyo’s Grade R teacher. While maintaining a position at MCA, she also takes classes for her teaching degree at AROS, a reformed college in Pretoria. Sherley lives in KwaMhlanga with her mother, two sisters, and brother. She is very passionate about teaching and one day wishes to write books helping teachers discover how to teach well. Sherley particularly enjoys working at Mukhanyo because it is a Christian school, but also enjoys the perspective of being exposed to children who don’t have what many people have but are still happy and very content.
Angeline Nhariswa teaches grades 4 and 5 at Mukhanyo. She originally came to South Africa from Zimbabwe about 5 years ago due to economic inflation. She has a husband and two children back in ZImbabwe and is always excited to return home to them when school closes. However, she also loves learning about all the cultures and religions of South Africa and meeting all kinds of people. Angeline received her Diploma in Education from University of Zimbabwe. She is always in prayer for her students and loves to see how they acquire skills.
Sabina Makena is one of the two wonderful cooks at MCA. She is from Thokoza. She has two children, one boy and one girl. The boy, Lucia, is in grade 5 at Mukhanyo. Sabina was studying Theology at Mukhanyo Theological College before she saw the advertisement for the position of cook at MCA and took the job due to limited funding. She is very grateful for the position at Mukhanyo!
Maria Sibongile is one of the two talented cooks at MCA. She is from Thotkoza, near KwaMhlanga. She is married with four children, one girl and three boys. She began cooking for MCA when Sabina told her about the position and prior to that was a domestic worker for one day/week. Maria absolutely loves to cook and wants a career in cooking. She and Sabina are very good friends and a great team!
Nelly Happy is a clerk and a substitute teacher for MCA. She is from Zakheni and lives in KwaMhlanga with her brother and younger sister, who is in grade 5. She studied Office Administration for one year and loves using her computer skills! She is always full of energy and loves the people she works with. Outside of her position at MCA, Nelly is also passionate about acting and loves to play netball!
Joe Coetzee is the Financial Manager for the MCA. He is the retired school principal of Combined School Cullinan, and has served in education as a geography teacher for 36 years. Joe was born and bred in South Africa and has been happily married to his wife Susan for fifty years. He is the proud father and grandfather of three children and six grand-children. He loves rugby!
