How We Teach
“The more of a person we succeed in making a child, the better will he both fulfill his own life and serve society.”
Instruction at Mukhanyo Christian Academy is based on the methods pioneered by British educator Charlotte Mason in the late 19th and early 20th century. She was a passionate proponent of a “living education” for children. Mason emphasized an approach to schooling that focused on the whole child—his habits, his character, and his wide-ranging lessons learned from personal interaction with a rich and dynamic world.
Wherever possible, Mason sought to introduce children to “living” sources. Science, for example, could be learned through regular engagement with outdoor nature study; language and literature could be enjoyed and appreciated through the reading of the great books and through interface with primary sources. Above all, the learning process could be infused with joy and purpose, tapping into a child’s innate curiosity about his world and equipping him for life and service.
Teachers at Mukhanyo Christian Academy are schooled in the Charlotte Mason method by experts from Ambleside Schools International, a training center and international network of schools which has offered instructional expertise to more than 1,000 teachers and parents across the globe. We are grateful for their partnership with us.
